AACAP’s 2024 Pediatric Psychopharmacology Update Institute
Advanced Pediatric Psychopharmacology: What to Do Next When Treatments Don’t Work
2024 Pediatric Psychopharmacology Update Institute – AACAP Current evidence-based pharmacological treatments alone or in combination with psychotherapy are available to treat children and adolescents with various psychiatric disorders. These treatments are efficacious, but a significant group of children and adolescents respond partially or do not respond. The treatment of these patients may be difficult requiring good clinical expertise to tease out the multiple causes of poor response, careful application of treatments that have been tested for youth, and in some occasions, carefully using pharmacological treatments used for adults with treatment resistant disorders, and close follow-up. Moreover, for very challenging cases thinking “outside of the box” is necessary.
