This MER primary care course reviews dermatology, infectious diseases, orthopedics and pain management through common outpatient problems. Sessions cover skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal infections; antimicrobial stewardship; chronic pain and opioid monitoring; inflammatory skin disorders; and benign or malignant skin lesions. Musculoskeletal teaching focuses on examination and assessment of the shoulder, hand, wrist, knee, ankle and foot.
The original conference was held September 28–October 1, 2026 in Crete, Greece. Its learning objectives and 16-presentation daily agenda are retained below for primary care clinicians, internists and other outpatient practitioners. The agenda describes the original teaching program and does not establish a separate file count or include live-event participation.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of the original educational activity, participants should be better prepared to:
- Review the epidemiology and microbiology of skin and soft tissue infections.
- Identify common pathogens responsible for respiratory tract infections.
- Assess the severity of diarrhea and determine when treatment is appropriate.
- Understand the goals and strategies of antimicrobial stewardship.
- Recognize challenges in treating chronic pain.
- Evaluate pharmacological and nonpharmacological pain management options.
- Differentiate common headache and migraine disorders.
- Develop safer opioid prescribing and monitoring strategies.
- Differentiate atopic, irritant contact, allergic contact, and nummular dermatitis.
- Evaluate papulosquamous skin diseases and their management.
- Distinguish benign from malignant skin tumors.
- Recognize premalignant and malignant skin lesions and understand appropriate office procedures.
- Diagnose and manage common shoulder injuries.
- Evaluate wrist, hand, and finger disorders.
- Review knee anatomy, physical examination, and common injuries.
- Recognize acute and chronic foot and ankle injuries and pain syndromes.
